ADV/DS ride Lake Berryessa/Knoxville OHV/Rayhouse Rd.

I did it solo last month, never having been there before. the only place where there's any confusion about where to go is where there's a tree down in a clearing. go left and then you can go back down to the road. my 2nd and 3rd pics are there.

it wouldn't surprise me if the gate is locked but I don't know. given the amount of rain expected I hope you're on decent tires.
 
Is this ride still going on?

I live in Napa and would love to join this ride if it is still going on. I don't have an Adventure bike but modified my suzuki SV 650 as a Scrambler with Kinko 705 tires. I think my bike can handle these fireroads. Even though it is currently Winter, are these rides still going on, on the 2nd Sunday of each month?

Low fendered ADV bikes or bikes in general are probably not the best idea right now.

I went 2 weekends ago and i was stopped about 2 miles from the top due to all of the mud caked in between my front tire and the fender. Had to remove fender completely and dig bike out of sticky ass mud.
 
Anyone going Sunday atleast to check out Knoxville or should I say does anyone WANT to go on Sunday?
 
XXshawnXX, did you end up going last weekend? If so, I'd love a report on down trees, mudslides, etc. I'm planning a trip down into Buck Island but want to make sure I can actually get there. Any reports on the gate being closed?
 
The zero ton bridge at the Hwy 16 end is under water right now.

I did not. I decided to do some maintenance on the Africa Twin and good thing I did as my air filters were the color of mud.

Thinking of going Sunday but will only head to Knoxville and fuck off up there.

Last time I tried to go to Buck Island, I had a helluva time with a low fender in the thick ass mud and had to turn around.

I took the WR250R out Fiske Creek Rd. last weekend in a "weather window". Man was it sloppy!!! I got so much nasty mud stuck in my engine that my clutch lever couldn't disengage. Long story short, I burned up my clutch and my poor bike spent a week out there all alone. I had to get a buddy to ride me 2up back in and do a field clutch swap. After about 2 hours of chiseling mud out off of every inch of the bike (and a 20 min clutch swap), we had it good enough to braaap outa there. Note to self, wait a few days for it to tack up!

Did this with a buddy over the weekend and was a blast! Thanks to all the contributors to this thread as it made navigation and what to expect easy.

The ride up was great once we were off the main roads and into the twisties heading towards Berryessa. Be careful of the presumed locals who absolutely FLY on those roads. My buddy and I aren’t slow but we were passed like we were standing still by a group of fogies (all due respect) on 1200GS’.

Once off on to Rieff we were in heaven as the scenery was amazing with all the recent rain. I’d say a few sections were a little more than “fire road” territory with ruts, some muddy ruts and incline/declines but totally manageable for a couple of dirt noobs like us.

If anyone is thinking about doing this ride from SF, I highly recommend it as a day trip. Leaving from SF at 8:30AM, we’re back in the city by 6PM with a couple of fuel and restaurant stops and only one trail side repair to bend a shifter.
 
Did this last sat plus a little more. First long ride on a new to me SE after going through it. Need a bigger tank, its thirsty!

would love to own a 950se with a big tank, someday,
but I'd probably just hurt myself ... :laughing:ride
