Aircraft that make your jaw drop!

Did ya get good photos from the museum you just visited??
Sort of. I have a crapload of images from previous visits, and I tend to look at aircraft in a different manner than most people. I now take pics of certain parts or portions of aircraft that fascinate me or catch my eye.

In this visit I focused on getting the aircraft serial numbers to allow me to look up the history of that specific aircraft. I also took pics of parts of the aircraft that I have not noticed previously that may indicate an unusual modification for a specific mission or test.

Military aircraft nerd for sure. I’ll post a couple examples….standby.

The design of the nose gear of the B-58 fascinates me. It appears very light and weak in my opinion. May be due to my experience with aircraft that land on aircraft carriers. They are much heavier / beefier.

Another example:
This is an A-3 Skywarrior. Do you see the horizontal marks between the emblem and “NAVY”?

I recognize them as JATO (rocket) mounting brackets / latches. I don’t remember seeing them on the many A-3s that I’ve seen, and I had to look it up. I never knew this was a capability the A-3 had. Notice the gun turret at the back of the aircraft.

Another pic of the same aircraft.

And 'leased' to the US Army for testing the Patriot missile.

I love the Whale. It's so amazing they operated off Essex-class decks.
