BAE, Best Artisan Empanadas Campbell restaurant worth a try

Asmodeus, it is just around the corner from Nifelheim, no more than a parsec or two. Google Maps is your friend. Enjoy the commute and the empanada.

Fundamentally, If it is more than 25 miles from Downtown SF, or in the East Bay at all, I do not fuck with it unless I can fly there.

@Mario is this relevant to your interests?

Two pages of empanada talk? Amazing!

This is a staple food in my country of origin (Argentina). We would eat them once a week easy. We have empanada de carne (meat), queso (cheese), choclo (corn) and many more. They look and taste a bit different from the ones I had around here. I guess these could be other country variants, but in the end pretty much the same

Since some of y'all are around my hanging grounds (the misterious city of Campbell), I suggest you also give Milhojas a try, bit further south than Campbell:

I found this local-ish spot and now must try it:

Really good! Had the potato/cheese/eggs, mediterranean and spinach and cheese. Would have got a few more but I thought $10 a piece was a bit pricey.

I need to make it to SF to try chalos. I ❤️ empanadas

Chalos Review: Service on a chill Saturday afternoon was easy and relatively quick. The Empanadas are not large, but at $6 a pop, who is crying? I expect 2-3 to satisfy most people. The choice of baked or fried is a nice touch.

Tried a mix of Ham & Cheese, Spicy Beef and Sweet Beef, all 3 were excellent, my preference is the Carne Picante (spicy beef), I can eat like 3 of those with a beer and be all good for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. The crust is not overly thick and slightly flaky with a reasonable amount of protein inside. The Ham & Cheese is mostly cheese, with cubed ham, but it works. Both Carne styles I tried seem to have filling that had been long simmered in a way that kept individual ingredients from speaking loudly, but the general flavor of the mixed components are well seasoned and satisfy with pretty much every bite.

The space is relatively large for SF with different seating options and I would recommend it if you are on the West Side. Certainly I will be returning.

This is far form the only empanada shop in SF, I just selected the one closest to my house. The aforementioned Venga and Chile Lendo are also supposed to be quite good if you want a more, "downtown," experience.
