Big drop in kindergarden enrollment and birth rates across the country

apparently they’re going against the trend up here. i spent last week volunteering at our annual summer reading camp for the little kids. lot’s of ‘em (little hellions, but also totally adorable). have said before that the locals are breeding like rabbits (not uncommon to see mom and dad dragging along 3,4,or 5 little ones). a couple of years ago they had to reopen an elementary school that had been closed for many years because the number of kids was too many for the t/k thru 8th grade facility they’d been using. now that school has t/k thru 3rd grade, and the middle school has 4th thru 8th. must be the water, lol.

Cool!

One of my brothers drives a school bus for a living. When summer comes he provides medical support for a children’s summer camp in Berkley. Children are our future.

i like being around the kids for a bit, but could never do it like that. when i came home i told my dude that apparently i have ‘the voice’. the other volunteers were having a hard time controlling the kids when they got particularly rambunctious, i walked over to them and said ‘knock it off, NOW.’ they did. he asked if i hit any of them. me: i would never hit someone else’s kid. him: we both know that’s not true.

I feel similarly about having children around all the time. Though I’ve been told I would make a wonderful father. I’m the oldest of twelve children and in some ways, I’ve alteady had my children. Then, when I met my second wife, me 36, her 37, I found she didn’t have the urge to have a child. So I had a vasectomy instead. Sometimes I wonder what having a child might be like but I’m happy that I didn’t.

My brother, who drives for the Vallejo school district, is also a bit weird. Nice guy, though. He’s totally into bicycles and bicycle safety. He frequently sponsors bike rodeo’s for children.

You know when you say shit like that it gets people hurt right? Tired old jokes that validate cyclists hate is cute until drivers throw things at cyclists and cyclists get hurt. You’re not funny.

Clearly you never saw any of my old Killdozer rants during the Critical Mass days. :laughing

Funny/not so funny that I thought of poor John getting taken out on his bicycle when I read that reply.

I'm relatively new to BARF, but cant help but notice how so many people are obviously very unhappy, mentally ill, and overall just haters of anything that doesn't fit their narrow way of thinking.

I came here to meet more like minded 2 wheeled people which I have found a lot of those people at the rallies thankfully. Maybe I should just use BARF for the rally threads and walk away from the rest?

Maybe I'm just not a "city people" kinda guy?

If you think this space is full of what you describe above, you should visit the political discussion site on this forum. Your head would explode, as mine did, which is why I don't go there anymore.

We've had some recent threads about what you mention. Some of the solutions put forth have been to block those who are offensive or simply ignore threads that aren't to your liking. Don't respond to trolls who are trying to goad you into a fight.

This is the internet and people treat each other differently than they would face to face.
Don't expect an unemotional debate to stay that way for long. After the facts have been exhausted, the personal attacks begin.

I'm on BARF daily and have been for years. I've learned not to get caught up in discussions about politics, sex or religion because they are triggers to many.
I'm here to relax and learn and socialize, not to argue and raise my BP. I get enough of that at home. ;)

Barf is all moto people. Some are well behaved and some aren't. Keep in mind, if you don't like one thread, you can always just change the channel to another one. Some people are far more easily offended than others are... just like irl.
