Defense attorney in Salinas / Monterey County recommendation please

Reading through this checkout thing I am getting the feeling I am a dinosaur. Never paid with a phone. Always use cash. Avoid the bot every time.

Love small talk with strangers when smiles are included.

Then there are two Dinosaurs here, I avoid box stores like the plague. Sometimes pay more for that privilege, usually cash. My rural small local grocery is family owned and I’ve interacted with most of the workers for years. They cater to those elite university folks in town and have local wild yeasted breads, local organic veg, a butcher, European cheeses and alot of craft beverages. Sometimes we chat and it is the best part of shopping to me. I have felt the availibility of self-checkout stealing but hold back. I decided I am not a thief at a very young age and am sticking to it. I can see how easy it would be to mistakenly have self checkout errors. I mean it is not like they train us in how to use their equipment and processes but expect perfection.

I wonder why no one has fought a shoplifting charge with the old I have had no training on using the system and how can I be expected to do it 100% accurately without training on their system.

I was told by my daughter yesterday that Target usually waits until someone gets to the $500 dollar shoplifting threshhold so they can file felony shoplifting charges. Not sure where she heard this but if true seems extra scummy.

Return your shopping cart? If everyone did that employees (whose job that is) would lose their jobs... All Retail is franticly trying to cut labor costs.
I just take them to the cart corral. There is still an employee shagging carts.

As a society we haven’t thought through what to do when we eliminate all human laborer from survival needs. We probably ought to start thinking about it though.

Parking secret. It's better to park near the cart corral than near the entrance.
Trader Joe's in Capitola is a free for all parking wise. I'm usually just happy to find a space i can fit the tuck in reasonably well :laughing

This is always my priority, I don't mind a long walk, just a pain to have to take a cart a long way to put it into the docking area. Of course, there are plenty of people that leave carts in any convenient spot, that tells me a lot about that person, none of it good.

It makes me want to shoplift.
Obviously you will not after announcing it on a public message board. BUT if one was to attempt shoplifting my guess would be they are better off just walking out with a cart or basket full of stuff without any interaction with the machine at all. A) you will avoid the extra camera time, since clearly they have A LOT of them focused on the self checkout B) they will not have your name from the credit card you have put in trying to 'cheat the system' into ringing up something different then what it is and then paying for a basket... C) If you decided to shoplift from the same store over and over again you deserve to be caught.....

(Side not did you notice how some self checkout terminals will time out (2-3 seconds) duplicate items, like you try scanning 2 of same thing in quick succession it will not ring up item 2 because it thinks you are mistakenly scanning the first item again...)

True for every parking lot except Costco's. Now there's an item I'd vote for- parking parking stall widths at least 9' wide or you're getting towed. Let tow-trucks wander the lots, snap a pick and drag it away. No more door dings for the win!

From work experience, Target won't always call the police if it was a first time offender for a small item. I'm not sure what that small limit is, but they definitely do make reports and arrests for misdemeanor shoplifting. That's definitely the majority of their cases, at least in California where the felony limit is over $950, can't charge burglary if it's an open store, and for the most part, individual instances of shoplifting usually aren't added together to get to one felony charge.

We are letting Tech billionaires shape this future when it's really just as much of a public policy issue. The government will address it too little too late.

9 feet is the standard parking lot width.

They still need the masses to use their tech to stay billionaires and need someone to work for them on that tech....
Just a re-shuffle of society priorities. Most kids these days probably think they can be a tiktok star huh?

I don’t mind self checkout. But if there is a line, I avoid it because people are so slow. The majority can’t tell the difference between their anus and a hole in the ground.

But that "line" is feeding 4-8 registers. Moves quickly. I'm sure the one cashier staffing 8 registers is getting paid 8 salaries...Union Rules and all.
