Get Fit, Stay Fit, Feel Good - 2026

rode bikes to school past two days, feels good to burn some energy and share time with the kids

the kids started to complain about their throttle-side wrist hurting. i got to explain how to keep light on the bars like they are holding a bird, how to have a little bend in the elbows, and how to keep their wrist in line. they are riding around 8 miles over 45 minutes or so. i think two days a week until they are asking for more is plenty :ride

That's rad. So, super rad. We lived in Norman, OK for a while when I was a kiddo and mom's BF at the time took me pedaling everywhere. He is responsible for me being a two wheel tramp.

With littles, keeping it FUN is a priority. I don’t want my joy to be their misery. 45 minutes is a big ride for a little person.

especially since we had to get out before we could eat breakfast this morning! the little dude turns 5 in a couple weeks, proud dada here :teeth

That is frustrating. Alternates at the gym are always needed. I am a go fast guy really. If the person is about my size and seems to be waiting I offer to have them work in. I rarely wait more than a minute in between sets. Waiting on others who will sit there for 3 - 5 minutes is ridiculous. If I did that I would be at the gym for 4 hours. :facepalm

That does not work for little women. If seats need to adjust etc.. then I will usually up the pace a little more and like I said I am pretty quick. The exception is bench press where I will take the time on the way up to near max weight.

I can't stand that part of public gyms. I'll always ask work in and if they continue to sit there and say "few more sets", I'll suggest "how" we can work in. Louder the voice, the more chance they just bail if they're not putting work in. It's the one obnoxious things I'll do if people aren't using the equipment actively. 90% of people will either bail or let someone work in when asked nicely, directly. I always put the weight and adjustments back to where they had them each time If I'm working-in. If they're sitting while resting, I suggest they walk around some to rest; better for blood flow and keeping HR from collapsing on them (and then spiking in the resistance phase). 60 seconds is plenty for a rest, plus doing paired sets (Bi's/ abs) gives specific muscles a rest period while others work...shortens the workout too. YMMV.

Did you see the article about the 12 year old that ran on his E-bike (Syron) from Clayton police and got busted? Lots of felony charges for him and the parents...big bust deal. Your post made me think of that front he "throttle-side" comment.

I saw that article. What a hot mess for all of them and a lot of stupidity to boot. I don't know if there are ignition locks or what-have-you on ebikes but that was a parenting fail.

Full parenting fail...we see the same group of kids every weekend doing the same thing. He's got to be one of them....mind you, I'm a fan of dissonance and disobedience at times. I like seeing kids living on the edge a bit, but the way they ride on the streets with traffic is asinine.

I am totally against modern helicopter parenting. But that qualifies as reckless. Give your kid enough rope to learn some lessons. Not enough to kill themselves.

Crushed my 5min power test today. I was hoping for 360w. I started around 380w then settled into 365w. Around the 3rd minute I had dropped to 355w. I forced myself out of the saddle when the clock ticked 4min and that kick was strong, up to 460w. I held that for as long as I could, about 40sec. Then I sat down, struggled for the last 20sec, and completely shut the legs off at 5min. Max HR was 190bpm for this one. 🥵

I’m hoping we get a few no-nonsense e-bike & e-scooter laws before kids start dying. There are plenty of groups of kids around me that have little regard for traffic or traffic laws when on their scooters. IMO, force em to have an M2 license and do it now before the problem gets worse.

IMO, if it has a throttle and is capable of more than 15mph, it’s a scooter and needs registration, lights, and an M2 to operate. And no software locks to bypass the law.

I would agree. A scooter or e-bike safety course as a requirement to have one. If the squirts are out in traffic they need to understand how traffic works.

Also, no one has said this in response to your post but you're a beast.

I have been in a lazy POS funk but went out and did 10 miles pretty much non-stop so I can keep my head in exercise mode. My pace was pretty good, too.

I saw the ride and was excited for you getting back at it. Did you feel well rested? The second ride back always feels better for me cuz the first just gets rid of the crustiness.

Thank you. I have been resting well the past few nights.

I recently replaced the old saddle with a new selle italia that I’m breaking in. It’s less padded and i realized it felt just a bit too low which has caused some muscle soreness in my hip flexors so I’m raising it like 2-5mm.

I’ll go for a pedal tomorrow and hopefully feel good. I had errands and such to run after work so I just did the bare minimum today. I feel decent about the muscle regain on my left leg so I’m switching into useless mass loss mode. My weight is really bothering me right now so I’m (slowly) working to improve my eating and nutrition to support my goals.

@two wheel tramp

Saddle choice and position is one of the most important things on a bicycle. It’s def a good idea to get that right. And bodies are always changing - so be ready to mess with it again in months or years.

I was working on my own bike fit today. It’s still getting better.

I suspect that consistent hours is how you burn those calories to help speed up weight loss. 2hrs at medium-low intensity is about the same fatigue as 1hr at high intensity - but it’s way more calories. So you’d rather do the 2hrs. And you will absolutely still build fitness with chill miles. It’s prob time to just chill and put in the hours.

I am going to research this more.

Thank you for the knowledge and encouragement It means a lot. 🥹

I’m signing up for a chill metric century and another relatively chill century after that.

Is that your garage @stangmx13 ? if so, I think I found the root of our problems. The number is always n+1 where n=nr motorcycles for us and n=nr pedalcycles for you. You get fit, we get fat 😅

@two wheel tramp let's ride again, I've been getting lazy here. If I don't load on too many margarita carbs tonight (it's my bday 🥳), I might try to redo that coastal century that I failed at last time. You should meet me at Tunitas

7 bikes in the pic. I own 3 and need to sell one cuz I’ll never ride it again. 2 are the wife’s and 2 are customer bikes. For how obsessed I am with riding, I own so few lol. I spend less time deciding which one to ride 😜

Happy Bday 🥳

Happy Bday Mario.

So it was a weird week for me. Did a round of golf Monday, gym Tuesday and Wednesday then a day off and back at it Friday. Didn't really feel the treadmill this week so stayed off it except for Friday when I jumped back on and did about 7 minutes fast pace probably could have gone longer but didn't want to kill myself as this weekend is sunny for once so have to do some hurricane season prep and get the generator working(its being balky again this year) and since its been about 4 weeks since I have mowed the yard I need to get my grass catcher running again so it doesn't look like I am bailing hay. Small engines suck to keep running good.

Anywho got in some good reps on the weights and am hoping to get back on track with the treadmill this coming week.

Glad to se all my bike riding friends are still killing it.
