Get Fit, Stay Fit, Feel Good - 2026

@stangmx13 , your off week sounds like a normal week for me. Stud.

Tonight I did a 15 mile zone 2 ride. It was really hard to go that slow 🤣. Took me almost 1.5 hours. Tomorrow is a leg day and I’m not looking forward to the DOMS…they always happen.

On a different exercise subject, my neighbor had a bunch of oaks dropped on her property and she gave me all the wood for firewood. The feller told me it’s more than a cord. I now get to do one of my most favorite things, split wood. At our old house I used to get 2 cords a year to split and was worried that wouldn’t be possible at our new house…really excited about this.
So manly! :love

I have a little Stihl and a big Stihl. Both are awesome.
hey bat-man, i saw the most awesome site last night. twilight, two lane road with very tall trees on both sides. swarms of bats doing crazy aerobatics. sky was still lit up enough that i could see them. it was spectacular! only bad bit was - one hit my windshield (sadly, not a thing i could do).

You can kinda adjust which muscles work the most during a bulgarian split squat. Move your ground foot closer or further away from the bench. One way is more quad, the other is more glute. Also, dumbell vs barbell weight kinda changes the balance too.

I wouldn't suggest this, given the change in load @ the knee. Better variation is moving the chest towards the knee or, dropping down as standard. But don't take my word for it:

Roads are great little feeding corridors for bats, no branches to dodge and all the food is out in the open. Heck the food gets concentrated because it’s attracted to the lights from the cars. But as you unfortunately experienced, roads have one big drawback for our furry flying friends.

For you (LB) and anyone that might be interested, there are bat walks that happen in the Yolo Causeway between Davis and Sacramento. It’s a guided visit to the massive free-tailed bat roost exodus of the I-80 Bridge. I’ve actually never done one, but I think you can get a schedule of the walk from the CDFW. I realize it would be a big effort for nearly everyone on BARF since everyone lives a good distance from the Causeway but I hear they are worth it.

@Ridley I would check those logs and see if any are fit for a sawmill and get some nice oak wood to work with in the future. Would be a waste for good sections to get burned well at least it would for me. I planted a bunch of yearling trees many years ago and two oaks are growing too close together think I may have to take one down and then will try and see if I can use my bandsaw to get some usable lumber out of it for small projects.

Looks like the gym is off for my last two nights. Lawnmower took a dump on me and just got it back from the shop this morning and will have to devote some serious time to cutting down the jungle in my yard that I haven't been able to mow for a month or so due to it breaking down. Gotta get it done before a weeks worth of rain headed our way starting Saturday. Good thing I just put some lights on that thing to help for just this kind of thing.

Hope everyone else gets some great workouts in the last few days.

I did lots of weeding in the flowerbeds yesterday. I would like to think that counts as exercise because my back sure is mad. :laughing

I should be taking the new bike for a spin today and getting accustomed to drop bars.

This one is in the front yard. It’s >40”dbh. But it’s not ever getting cut down unless it dies.

beautiful tree but that trunk is short and where it bifurcates I think those would be considered branches and those usually have weird stress points and tend to warp when milled for boards so probably good for just firewood at that point. The one I have has a 10-12ft tall trunk with small branches off of it so much better candidate.

I know it’s not a candidate for lumber for the very reasons you stated, just showing a picture of a big ass oak in our yard. The trees the neighbor dropped are all 15-20” dbh, and fairly straight 30-40-foot-tall.

@Sharxfan, I’m sure some of the wood could be milled but I don’t have a way to do anything about it. Where we are located live oak and black oak are the most common type of trees.

Can you take those down in your area w/out a permit Justin?

@Holeshot technically no trees can be cut down without a permit from the county. However we live in an HOA and we need to get approval from the HOA for removal of any tree over 3”dbh. The HOA has an MOU with the county that allows the HOA to approve tree removal for safety and fire hazards. So we as individuals/residents are not subject to obtaining permits because of our community. Hope that makes sense.

This hits REALLY close to home. I haven't been doing open water swims much lately. I miss it. I didn't do escape this year either. I have a ton of respect for Erica Fox. RIP. :rose

Ocean swimmer Erica Fox was killed in December by a single powerful shark bite in the waters near Monterey, according to a newly released autopsy report that a researcher said bolsters a theory about relatively rare shark attacks on people.

The report, released late Wednesday, adds new details to the initial finding released in January by the Santa Cruz County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office that Fox, whose body washed ashore north of Santa Cruz nearly a week after she failed to return from a swim near Monterey, was killed by a shark.

Chris Lowe, a professor of marine biology and director of the Shark Lab at California State University Long Beach, said Thursday that it is noteworthy that there was only one bite, as with most fatalities from great white sharks.

“The only explanation we can come up with in cases like this is that the shark made a mistake,” he said. “It mistook a person for a seal or a sea lion.”

I have no malice towards the shark. It just made a mistake.

Chomp.

"Is not Yum. Will not eat."

That’s extremely sad.

I am not an ocean fan because the things in there that can eat you scare me way way more than the thing on land that can eat you. Humans are at such a disadvantage in the water. I’m a land based animal and that’s where I stay. When we go to Hawaii my ass stays planted on the beach with food and drink.
