Get Fit, Stay Fit, Feel Good - 2026

Just took a class at the local BMX track. Fun, low pressure, a moderate core workout. Does this count as another hobby or does it just add to my current cycling? 😅

Hope that makes sense.
Hadn't heard of those type of deals till now. Not sure If I'd want the HOA or city in control...seems a tossup. I do know, we've been able to get the fire fuels guys to work with us when needed. I don't think the HOA's have done anything for us unless we had something in trade. Plenty of stories with HOA's....

It's a new hobby. I said so.

That said, I am putting on shorts and heading out on the new bike for our maiden voyage. Thanks @tag3 for putting it together.

HOA, City, or County, someone else always has control. Whether they enforce their control is a different story. We’ve had good experiences so far with our HOA.

Dude.

Drop bars are weird. It’s so much new muscle memory. My hands are like, wtf is this and were a bit fussy. But I didn’t die. My ass was like, why is this saddle trying to kill me. So I have a few new things to break in.

Overall? Jesus this thing rides like butter! It’s so smooth and quiet. It doesn’t want to shift to the second chain ring unless I sort of “clutch” it. I had to come back and be like, “@tag3 I am a dummy. How do I shift?!!” Then I set back out. I will say I’m much more comfortable with one handed operation on this bike because it feels super stable. I’m going to continue with some shorter rides until my brain and butt are less uneasy with the machine.

10/10 Outstanding.

Just finished my first stint with saw and ax. It’s really hot and I am going to have some sore abs when this is all said and done. Dynamic movements that I don’t get on the bike or by lifting weights.
i definitely count that sort of work as workouts. it’s a win / win (physical benefit + much needed work getting done). very satisfying. but also ‘wreck me’ level exhausting. next up - gulping down huge amounts of water, long shower, and then a stiff drink lol.

Did not do a wreck me level workout, but I did pick up and put down the barbell a few times with some squats, pullover, and twists added in.

So got in my lawnmower session yesterday which consisted of moving levers back and forth and trying to drink copious amounts of water to offset the amount of thermal energy my body was absorbing via that big yellow ball in the sky. Felt good to actually be able to see the ground after a month but only got about 3/4 of an acre done and have 4 more to go.

So started the small meals every 2 hours diet and so far haven't died from starvation but I am noticing the scale making ever so slight movement downwards. So far this week with only 2 workouts and one mowing session I am down about 4lbs. Not sure if its water weight or fat but am happy none the less. Hope this trend continues as I plan on being able to workout again next week. Only thing that worries me is I have 3 work trips planned and when traveling its way harder to keep to that routine so will have to try and figure something out.

@two wheel tramp Glad you got to ride Butter !

Day off for me today. Did PT yesterday AM and then lower body weights and the bike ride in the early afternoon.

The PT isolated what I call the bolt pain. Seems to match up to where the bolt goes through the femur. It still catches so to speak... click click with certain movements. Feels awkward as hell, like tendons catching the bolt as they move. She can feel it and is deep diving into isolating it and has added some things to target it. Did that in PT and then the weights slapped it hard. Thus.. I am a bit sore in that spot.

This weekend is my 50th High School reunion so a chance to see other OG's and how they fair in the :afm199 fitness / life game. A few are hitting the golf links today. It is interesting as most are not the "athletes" from high school, but it is great to see friends enjoying life for sure.

Several of us are doing lunch and for 3 of us this applies.

Is portion control difficult with so many meals? Are you tracking calories in some way?

Saddles are one thing that shouldn’t be broken in. If it’s not reasonably comfortable from the start, it’s likely the wrong saddle, at the wrong angle, or in a bad location. If you really like your saddle on the other bikes, it may be worth getting another one.

In cycling, “clutching it” is called “soft pedaling”. You reduce the force of your legs and just turn the pedals to cause a smooth shift. It’s all but required for shifting the front chainrings. When going small chainring to big chainring, this makes the shift work better. When going big to small, it prevents dropping your chain. Also, holding that lever in place when going small to big can help a bit - instead of just pressing it real fast.

So morning meal is normal instant oatmeal and protein shake. Every other meal is 6oz give or take of protein and some limited carb usually veggies or sometimes 1/4 cup of pistachios. Not really calorie counting just something I had done before and it worked.

How much younger were you when "it worked"? Body composition (roughly) the same?

pretty much but I was just younger and roughly the same weight and I was working out kind of the same. weird thing about me is I tend to get to a certain weight and then my body stays there pretty much no matter how much I eat or exercise. Then some years later it decides that it has had enough of that weight then shoots for another one and I stay there pretty much no matter what I do. Hopefully this calorie deficit and ramping up of my metabolism by eating more often will help me lose weight quicker and once its lost I can then go back to eating more/better calories for gaining muscle.
