Get Fit, Stay Fit, Feel Good - 2026

Got up at 5am and did a shoulder workout and then for lunch did a Zwift one hour zone 2 workout on the trainer in my home office. Felt really good. Also I just purchased new tires for the gravel bike, Schwalbe G one R pros. Looking forward to getting them mounted up and see the difference from the current Maxxis Ramblers. Based on the reviews I’m expecting a big difference. Next purchase will be new shoes, Lake MX239 Gravel. My current shoes are narrow and my smaller toes have been falling asleep on rides over an hour. The Lakes are more like my Topo running shoes with a bigger toe box.

Amazing choices. Love that tire. And Lake makes shoes that actually fits people’s feet.

Quick update on my training for my race at the end of June. It’s been a lot like March, in like a lion, out like a lamb. I started off great working on endurance but then our trip to Hawaii happened and obviously while on vacation I didn’t ride. We got back on Monday and I’ve just been catching up on work. Two whole weeks without riding, it’s driving me nuts. I’ve kept up with my weight training and tomorrow I’m getting back on Zwift since we will be having rain for the next 4 days. Tomorrow’s schedule will be 5:30 am lifting weights, lunchtime Zwift ride. LETS DO THIS!!!!!
I believe in you!

I’m going to check them out.

It’s crazy how narrow cycling shoes are. Worse than most running shoes. I understand power transfer but a little room for the toes is actually a good thing.

Ya road cycling is still trying to get over that they catered to tall skinny euro men for so long.

With good insoles, I don’t think you need as much room as running shoes. I don’t find that my feet lengthen as they tire because the stiff sole and insole are holding up my arch. But ya, still some room. Lake had their size methods that says +5mm from your actual foot length. It worked well for my SO.

I wear Dansko sneakers. I swear by them. I also like NB 574 which have a lower profile sole. I switch between the two because the Dansko shoes have a stiff sole and the others don’t, which helps with more fine muscle movement in my left foot.

I am hella annoyed right now because I fly home in a few hours and it’s rainy and cold in oregon.

I wanna pedal! *stamps foot*

I just purchased No Bull sneakers and they feel great. Not a great deal of running but they conquer the gym floor.

I love my NoBulls (all of them). They hold up unlike any other shoe I've had...and lots of foot bed support. Welcome to the fold. It's addictive.

I am three lbs heavier than when I left for the city three weeks ago. I’m not thrilled but I’m going to tell myself some of it is the new firmer feeling muscle in my left leg. :x

I am no where near my goal of losing excess mass and I’m okay with it for now.

In other news I remembered I have the 21 speed mtb to tackle some steeper climbing stuff with.

I’m pretty damn tired today so I opted for a nice rain walk.

It gave me a chance to check my VO2 max. It’s at 26.6, with 27 being average for a person with my stats. I was over 30, or above average. I’m so close! Speed consistently under a 20 min mile. I walked 3 miles today. Left foot feels pretty good.

Trending up is so fun. Cute cows too.

My coach tried to kill me this week.
Mon - Lifting
Tues - Yoga
Wed - 3hrs Endurance with 6x3min All Outs on the MTB
Thurs - 4.5hrs Endurance
Fri - Yoga
Sat - 2.5hrs Endurance with 2x10 of 20s sprint & 1m40s endurance
Sun - 4.5hrs Endurance

The whole week ended up being 215miles, 16200ft of climbing, in 14h20min. Not bad.

I survived and actually felt really good today. The two intensity workouts were great MTB practice for the race in 2 weeks. MTB racing requires so much intermittent power and recovering from those efforts. It felt good to practice them now. Plus I feel like this intensity opened up my legs after a few weeks focusing on lifting. It's like I have to train the new muscle fibers to pedal.

Now i get to taper in Hawaii

So did some work in the yard this weekend and felt okay exerting myself so that means it's gym time again. Looking forward to going tonight and hitting the weights and the treadmill. Hopefully I post tomorrow which means I made 13 minutes on the treadmill without passing out.
