My OG mend has started.

That is scary shit. My nail is inside, but that bolt into the femoral head looks similar. 😱

I have noted what feels like a tendon sort of catching and releasing on it in certain motions. Not painful but fucking weird as hell. Scary weird.

In PT yesterday we start to do lying side leg lifts. Again.. I had tried a month ago and that weirdness scared me away. I noted it again yesterday, but not as bad and shifting the angle a little eliminated it.

I follow up last night with a solid bike ride, exercises including just fricking walking forward and back, and then laying in bed doing 3 sets of the leg lifts, some other strengthening exercises and then stretching. The leg lifts went OK.

The Mrs. actually hung out when I did the 1.5 hr first part and decided it would be good for her to do many of the exercises too so she is going to join me here and there moving forward. She recognized quite a few from her badly sprained ankle 3 years ago.

Going to 45 minutes of PT in the AM (which is mostly stretching and strength improvement analysis) and then knocking out another couple hours in the evening has got to be getting me better than just being an old goat watching TV. The Mrs. certainly has noted all the effort I have been giving and is routing for a full recovery.

Hit the gym for 1.5 hours of fun today.

Rode the bike for 22 minutes hitting a goal I made a month ago when I started back at the gym. That was to get to level 10 on the bike and do 4 miles in 20 minutes. Last week I did hit level 10 but not for long as the controlled breathing got away from me. Today I hit it on the nose and then cool down. 2.5 min warm up and level 10 for 17.5 min maintaining the controlled breathing. Now I will start to see how far I can go in 20 minutes. Started at about 3.2 miles cruising level 6. So progress is easy to see. That feels pretty good.

Today was upper body but really not shoulders per say as I am fighting the shoulder. It is getting better and I will get a status check from the physical therapist tomorrow. Typing this I can feel the pump in the arms I happy that the amount of weight I am doing is creeping up as well.

When I get home another 20 minute bike ride and the PT exercise program assigned to me for the leg.
Going to invite the Mrs. to kick my ass too. Looking forward to treating myself a little over the weekend.
Bong hit, a vodka and some food that I have been steering clear of on Saturday.

When I broke metatarsal for my pinky in my right hand they decided against surgery since it was only midly displaced. This meant it healed with a bit of an arch. For about a year the tendon that is meant to run across the top of the bone would occasionally snap to the side doing things like catching a baseball or whatever. Definitely hurt, but I assume it grew and or stretched and now sits there full time as after a year or so it never bothered me again.

March 22nd update.

Feeling pretty positive about the progress in the last 10 days.
Gym going well and I have reached a spot where I am not using the cane 100%. Actually closer to 25% but it does take a minute to get the leg warmed up so if I walk with an ugly limp for a bit. Once it warms up I look almost normal.

I got applause from the staff at Togo's on Friday when I went in without a cane. It was cool to be acknowledged.

I have an appointment with Mrs. Budman next Saturday AM to try to mount up on DU CAT. Not in Moto Gear so it will be a bit easier than wearing heavy boots and such but a start and some feel good as I hit 6 months of this fight to get back to health.

Next month will be a shift in my PT as they feel changing the "official" visits to once every other week is what the insurance program dictates. I will get the opportunity to :rant at the Doctor to see if I can stick with weekly. I think the stretching and range of motion checks and the new exercises warrant sticking with it.

I do plan to rant at the Doc. "I am not some old guy who is going to stay on the couch. I have physical goals and the determination to obtain them and my PT is an important part of being successful and enjoying that last decade of my life." :x

Looking forward to heading to the gym after watching MotoGP.
I am enjoying it mucho and seeing younger people more often is cool :teeth

I think you should grab that self rescue jack I/m giving away in the ADV forum. I made a smaller version and it's given me confidence. Are you doing lots of balance exercises? This is my greatest challenge. Still can't stand on my right leg without a lot of wobble.

Yes on the balance work. 6 days a week.
Just finished that actually. Single leg ( both ) and double toe to heel.

Both really get those little bits working. Getting pretty good at it actually. At first I SUCKED.
I dig it when on the double I can doing breathing movements with the arms while maintaining the balance. Makes me happy. 😆

I have used that for my wrist. Just need to be super careful not to get anywhere near the eyes. Bio-Freeze has been used as well as ICY HOT and Ben Gay.

Thinking horse shit make sense :laughing
If you’re dealing with arthritis aches, CBD might be worth a try.
It’s not a miracle fix, and the research is still catching up, but a lot of people report that CBD helps take the edge off joint pain, stiffness, and general discomfort. Unlike menthol creams like Biofreeze (which mainly give a cooling sensation) or Voltaren (which is an anti‑inflammatory), CBD may offer a broader calming effect — some folks notice better sleep or less overall tension, which can make pain easier to manage.

It’s generally well‑tolerated, non‑psychoactive, and easy to layer with other treatments. Just make sure to choose a product that’s third‑party tested so you know what you’re actually getting.

Not saying it works for everyone — but for some people, it’s a helpful addition to the toolbox.

Thanks Paul.

I forgot I was using it all the time before the leg went crack. Then ran out.
Indeed it does seem to help. Must order more.

Had a great exercise day yesterday. Official PT in the AM and then at lunch the Gym PT and weights but the big win was hitting the 4 mile mark on the bike in just under 20 minutes. Made that goal over a month ago and it feels good to know that I have made cardio progress and leg heals.

Saturday I am sitting on DU CAT. Seeing how getting on an off feels. Inching closer to riding.

6 Months yesterday.

Been a haul. This AM has shown me some smiles which will soon lead to some miles.

Go on and off a couple times. Damn sure I can do it with boots and moto gear on.
Ride next weekend??? Maybe so. :teeth

Tomorrow I am going to wash the bike and do a few more reps.

Still hammering on the rehab. 6 days a week. 3 lower body PT and 3 upper body.
Doing some of both every day though. Balance and stretching for the legs and stretching for the shoulder.
It is obvious to me the shoulder will never get back to pre-arthritis days. A shot may be in order when the pain affects my riding. For now I do not believe it will.
Also I am getting much stronger. I have doubled my bench press as an example. Same goes for leg extensions.

Now doing some newer stuff as I continue to make progress.

Maybe it is time to finally wash my gear. :laughing

Lets go!

Post of the day! !!
Didyou make vroom vroom noises?

Today rolled the bike out and washed it.
The Mrs also..Washed all my gear too for the first time in 4 years. :laughing

After hitting the gym I came home to a clean and warm jacket. More importantly a Wife that is happy to see the progress and is supporting the return to riding.

Hell yeah, Budman. Good to hear you’re making progress. Clean bike, clean gear, and a wife who’s got your back — that’s a good day. Keep grinding, brother. The road’s still waiting on you.
