Finally getting around to getting the old pig dialed'ish.

Just posted this special bike in the classifieds. California Plated SMR450 with CR500 Engine

I tore down my plated 2-stroke 250 in November, got the frame and side cases powdercoated. Suspension sorted by Dave Moss and RaceTech, Lectron jetless carb and Boyesen RAD Valve, aluminum radiators and Samco hoses, new top end, water pump impeller and shaft, replaced pretty much every gasket and seal, clutch and throttle cables, ProTaper fat bars and mounts, Cycra center mount handguards, Galfer brake lines, and some other odds and ends. Wet sanded the 20 year old scratches outta the tank, waiting on my bodywork buddy to finish up the polishing the tank, and Galfer to send the brake lines, and it'll be pretty much done for now.

She's getting really close. Put on a 16mm radial Braking master cylinder on yesterday. Just waiting on brake lines now.

I love him! He's so easy to ride: super responsive and easy to throw around. Still getting to know him. My other bike is a Triumph Street Triple R with a huge rev range, which is really different than this little thumper.

The tires are awesome. The suspension is lovely - though not stock. I got softer springs put in (I weigh about 100 lbs) and had them compressed to lower the bike a little.

I got him for the tight twisties that I normally ride in Marin, Sonoma, and Napa counties. Turns out he's ok on a longer trip too. I took him on a long weekend trip to the Sierras a couple weeks ago. Got a couple Wolfman saddlebags and made a duffle to strap over the top. Obviously long freeway riding isn't the best. Vibrates a lot, so can't see anything in my mirrors. The seat is the most uncomfortable seat I've ever had. It has about 1/2" of foam. He's already too tall for me, so adding more foam isn't something I want to do. I'm learning to stand more instead.

The one complaint: the exhaust is angled directly at the rear left turn signal and melts it. I made a heat shield to protect the light.

Not sure about the 701, but the 690 has the catalytic converter in the pipe. Put on a Leo Vince slip on, and the heat goes away.

Good to know about the catalytic converter. This weekend a deer pushed my exhaust out of place and now it's melting the tail piece. I guess it's time for a new exhaust.
