Stop Going to Ranges

I agree with everything you said except the avoiding going to a shooting range part. I think shooting at a range does have value. It’s most certainly not going to train you for many situations, but it does give you the basics that you can then build on with additional training. A shooting range can provide a good, basic start to developing your skills.

The value in training at a shooting range is it introduces and reinforces basic gun handling skills. The range provides an environment devoid of the distractions that interrupt laying a solid foundation for the very scenario one may encounter in the field.
:facepalm
A little advice, other people’s shoes, walk a mile in them.

You said: don't make it political, then made it political?
Look, there is a lot of nonsense out there. Outliers as I would call them.
Don't lump people to fit your agenda. We are messier than that.
Weather you own a gun and actively shoot has no bearing on politics, unless you make it about politics.
And the second amendment is waved around out of context by small thinkers from both sides.
Be bigger, more open unless given a reason not to. Thats my moto.:)

Many ranges have private ranges you can rent where you can do almost anything you want. Even outside of training for personal defense, folks want to train for gun games like IPSC and such, which require draw from holster, moving, rapid fire, etc. All things most generic gun lane ranges won't let you do.

But even that said, some of those ranges will host competitions, where you can participate in those kinds of maneuvers. They can happen inside the range, on the other side of the tables.

So wait……no instructors in CA that can adequately train someone? And it’s not happening at a range?! 😂

What the heck does liberalism have to do with your original premise?

FYI, I absolutely hate Newsome and his kind. He has wasted more money in this state as well as trying to shut down the 2nd amendment every chance he gets. At one point in my life I used to call myself a Democrat. No longer.

And as you suggested, only going to a range can be somewhat limiting. But much of what you stated about getting extra training can be obtained by simply thinking things out ahead of time. God help the person who enters my home to do me harm. I will not hesitate to stop the threat. And I would be very effective at doing so.

FYI, I’m nearly 74 now and while I would enjoy a self defense course, I really can’t do that anymore.

FYI, I think your statement about getting more training would be much stronger if you didn’t disparage going to a range.

I’ve already stopped riding. I really stopped some years ago when I got my convertible Mini Cooper in full John Cooper Works trim. Then my wife came down with Alzheimer’s and she needed me full time. I gave my bike to someone who would appreciate it. Then, after my wife passed, I was planning on getting another bike but I had a stroke which put an end to riding bikes. I’m fine with it all. Life is change.

I guess my issue, which prompted my knee jerk rejection of your argument is born of my own personal experiences combatting violence. You do come off as a my way or highway and I know more than my entire audience put together type Couple that with some broad stroke generalizations and it makes me, and probably others, choose not to validate what you are attempting to convey.

I’ll check back in after rereading the OP with a more clear and open mind.

I know that you've been a member over 2 decades so are familiar with the multitudes of occupations, expertise and experiences of your audience.

Ok, different perspective. When in an urban environment I look for defensible space. On our property I do carry. Why? Because we have wild pigs and rattlesnakes. We also have zombies and coyotes. Our dogs provide an initial level of security but if I’m up there alone I am protected.

We all wake up that this morning is just another usual day (you can live in the absolute best neighborhood) until its not and the news is full of those unfortunately, then it could be about us or our family and friends. It does not always happen to someone else

Best to have it and not need it than need it and not have it

Care to share the names of some ranges in California that offer private lanes where you can do almost anything you want?
CA Tactical, Burro Canyon, Route 66 Shooting park all have private ranges. You can draw from holster, bring your own targets, etc. Not going let you do anything crazy, but that should cover the bulk of what you want to do.

I have not been to these places, just stuff I've read online.
