Tesla Model 3: End of the Internal-Combustion Engine?

Anyone coming from a gas powered car won't find a Tesla stale at the moment. Like I said earlier, the 2023 Model 3 I drove seemed fresh and I liked the minimalism. Yes the car came out in 2017/2018, but it was limited production at first.

Being a ground up electric car also has its advantages, the car isn't saddled with a lot of legacy design. Big startup sequences on the display that simulate a gas engine starting are one I can think of right off the top of my head.

How does Mercedes EQS compare to Model Y/X? I heard good things about it.

There's also been a ton of over the air software updates since 2017/2018. The updates are sent to all the vehicles, so your used Tesla gets better over time.

EQS is $100k+ a Model 3 is $38k ($28k if you qualify for state and federal tax breaks) and the Model Y is $48k ($38k with tax breaks)

Aaaaand Model 3 has a very barebones interior while the EQS feels like you are enveloped in the automotive version of the Tecnicolor Dreamcoat. A whole bunch of screens, lights, bells, and whistles. It’s pretty much the polar opposite of Tesla’s “minimalism” design.

I would maybe cross shop EQS to perhaps the Model S as far as size goes though.

I'm wondering why sales are not higher for the EQS vehicles. Production limited?

Software recalls happen? :dunno

"To fix the issue, owners will need to schedule an appointment with an authorized dealer, where the cars will get a software update for the electric drivetrain system."

But some automakers are fixing software over the internet rather than making an appointment.

EQS? Cause Mercedes design has gone to the bangled...the EQS is not a good looking car at ta'll. Most of Mercedes lineup is either very pedestrian looking, or an egg of some sort.

That kind of blows out the "wait until a normal car company makes a good EV".
#CompetitionIsComing.

Mercedes engineered the EQS aerodynamic and wound up with a jelly bean.

The trick with car design today is to be aerodynamic and stylish. Those two can be very opposite.

I honestly believe that is what helped Tesla get a huge jump into the market. At the time the Model S came out, the handful of other pure EVs on the market at the time (and still many today) all looked like they’re trying to look like they’re from the future. The Model S looked kind of like a subdued Aston Martin which everybody thought looked pretty good.

Everyone is trying to squeak every last bit of range out of these things with tons of compromises in styling and performance. Know what? Gimme some actual nice looking wheels instead of these dorky looking almost solid wheels they’re fitting on everything. I’ll live with the 5-10 miles less range.

I like engineering, when things look smart, instead of style pandering to people that don't know or care why things are the way they are. Aptera for example, looks like some smart people spent lots of time in a wind tunnel. IIRC, by the numbers, I think tesla is actually pretty solid too.

I'm guessing because its front doesn't look that good and moreso it's also expensive, so, only old uncles with money (as is sometimes presumed for the age) can buy it—for the status—and they sometimes drive weirdly, abrubtly, like wanting to run over other people, too.

You know, like any other typical Lexus LS400 series sedan driver… :dunno

Or so I’ve seen, based on the anecdotal evidence of three.

3 row compact crossovers make no sense no matter who the manufacturer is but weirdly it is something the market demands. :dunno

It's not "compact" , it's Acura MDX sized! At least according to owners....:later

But it's certainly heavier on the roads. I wonder if it should be taxed more than an MDX or it already is ?

People want to carry more passengers without having to deal with driving a Suburban or Excursion sized behemoth?

That would be dumb if it the space was really like that. Model Y is not huge, so I would expect a space compromise.

It looks like the Twitter post is a misrepresentation. That has never happened.:wow

That 3rd row is definitely not suitable for adults. Toward the end of the video, it shows a woman sitting back there. No leg or foot room. And it looked like her head sat higher than the rear door. They didn't show it with the rear door closed for a reason.

I have the 5 seater model Y. Plenty of room with that configuration.

EVs are taxed more, at least in California. The renewal registration I just paid was more than my other two vehicles combined. I believe it is higher to offset the fact that EVs aren't contributing to the road maintenance gasoline taxes.

Looks like fanboy Kilroy cmisrepresented the video and posted a fanboi video. A Tesla fan misleading people , that has never happened :rolleyes :laughing

Our minivans work just fine for that. :p

I’ll probably look for a model 3 a lot harder after summer break.
