What a beautiful bike. I'm sorry to hear about it being down and out. Thanks for posting your experience and analysis.

Question: Did the other vehicle make any contact with your leg or any other part of your body?

Not that I'm aware of.

Did you notice the driver shift his shoulders at all prior to the maneuver?

Do you think honking would have had any effect? I understand it happened quick and likely there was no time to make a decision.

I never saw the driver do anything but swing into my lane. And you're right, it happened so damn fast that even attempting to react and honk my horn would've been futile since as soon as I noticed him pulling out, I was hit and going down.

If by new Beemer (Bimmer's are cars :x ) you mean my RT being repaired and returned to me, then yes. :laughing

Congrats on a positive outcome. The RTs are surprisingly resilient. Friend of mine had a rear tire blowout at about 80mph and went into a cement wall wheels first. Estimate was $14k in damages and was totalled obviously. He bought the bike back for around $2k and we bought a set of used wheels on ebay for $800. Thing still runs like a champ and rides just fine. Did a 250 mile trip down to Monterey and it performed flawlessly.

Sounds like there was nothing you could do about the accident. If someone chooses to be in your lane at the exact second you are in that space, you can't beat the speed that a car can quickly leap to the side. Glad you're alright.
