Where do we post political memes?

Almost something = Not something
I didn't call it a meme did I? You weren't suspended were you? Yet here we are with your panties pulled up tight.

I understand that bumper sticker posts cause problems. I agree they don’t add value. I disagree that what I posted was that.
This level of angry pushback is pretty fucked up.
Pot / Kettle

EDIT: You (unintentionally) rolled the dice. It didn't play out like you planned. Shit happens.

Where have I gotten angry? I asked for clarification so I can abide by the rules. You don’t want to do that.

Panties? Really?
You implied that I was angry, no? The second sentence can be read as angry.

And to clarify, Moderator, and he didn't tell you to stop posting.
You are not hearing me. Please define a meme.

Also, Who are you to tell me to stop posting?
I've repeatedly explained why clarification is problematic.

Context. Read the next few posts in that thread. If that doesn't make it clear, then there is nothing more I can say.

….This is your fourth post in this thread, it is time to move on.
:| in what universe is this not a request for me to stop posting in this thread?

So an image can be a meme after the fact based on what other people post? What about the context of oil profits instagram post? Context is discretionary too?

I think I get it. The moderators think it’s easier for them to use their discretion than it is to make fair rules and enforce them.

I think if that is the case, people will continue to stumble over an invisible, arbitrary line and when they do it will cause confusion and strife.

Clearly we are at an impasse and my “panties” are the problem.
Not people reacting negatively to honest questions about what’s ok to post.

Also, I regularly wear speedos and cycling shorts. If you want to try and put me down or diminish my masculinity, cap on those. They are tight, black and hug my ass really well. They are even a bit shiny.

Why would you bring up panties?

Mike, I’m not around here much any more and have little desire to interact with people on anything of substance, but I stumbled onto this thread and am a bit dismayed that people seem to want to die on hills like this. It’s a motorcycle forum that happens to allow a lot of off topic leeway. It is owned and funded privately and there are rules, some of which are open to interpretation, by design, for reasons Enchanter described. In the past, when things like the definition of a meme are written like a machine part specification, inevitably, someone makes it a game to toe the line and cause issues.

As a non-moderator, let me offer a definition that should serve as a common sense weathervane:

“A political meme is a piece of digital media—typically an image, short video clip, GIF, or altered piece of text—that uses humor, satire, ironies, or pop culture references to communicate a political opinion, mock an opponent, or comment on public policy and current events.”

That’s a response from a GPT tool and it seems to describe the range of things most of us would consider memes. I’d guess you have a sense for when something might be questionable. You get to decide what to do in that case; color inside the lines, or take the chance that the crayon is going to scribble on the tablecloth. It’s not the end of the world either way. What makes it seem more like that is how one chooses to react.

An unmoderated forum soon turns into a place inhabited by five assholes who ran everyone else off. Moderation is not always perfect, but this group tries hard to be fair. I hope you can see that.

Where did you see me use the word when replying to you?

IT is unless you remember the meme wars of PolSink 1 and how ugly it was.
It was fucking ugly and got disgusting actually.

The only point for these is to give people who agree with you a giggle and poke at those that don't.

It's kind of crazy to see folks dying on the hill of "I decline to define a meme" and then go "yeah that ChatGPT definition is great!" and just generally fan the flames of ambiguity, while disparaging members for asking for clarity- when the entirety of the effort is putting a wet blanket on free conversation in the PS, and the lack of clarity basically discourages folks from posting media content that the mods might disagree with- because who knows, this might be "too close to being a meme" and I might get a strike for it.

Love you guys, but dang. All it takes is doing the job of drawing the line in the sand you don't want us to cross, instead of blaming members for somehow abusing you by asking for clarity. If you want to exercise authority without creating fear, you have to be clear about what prompts the response by authority. I don't care to earn a ban because I posted an image that a mod didn't like, decided to call a meme, and subsequently give me a holiday from BARF.

FFS, man. You have power, you have to take care in how you exercise that power.

This is a well written and thoughtful reply. I need to take some time to digest it. I'm not saying that I'll change my mind about defining a meme, but this post as encouraged me to pause and reconsider. Maybe there is a way to meet somewhere in the middle.

I'm busy at work preparing for an audit by the feds, and family life has ramped up too. I honestly plan to come back to this, but feel free to send a reminder if I fail to return in a reasonable amount of time.

Thanks, brother. Good luck with the audit, and much love to you (and everyone.) <3

Hey, those are my panties. :laughing

@MC BumSlap suspended for posting a hilarious, non-political gif? Apparently a gif is almost a meme. :facepalm

"The main difference is that a GIF is a file format (Graphics Interchange Format) used for short, looping, soundless animations, while a meme is a cultural idea, joke, or concept that spreads from person to person online."
