2026/2027 NFL Thread

Someone sent that to me yesterday and instant reaction was FUCK!!!!. NFC West was going to be bad this year as is but now it just got BAM'd. Who knows maybe the Niners stay healthy this year and we can make a go of it.

I think A. Donald should come out of retirement.

Miles Garrett to the Rams…sorry 49ers fans…and the rest of the NFC west.
Rams are a serious contender this year. Seattle still surprisingly dangerous and the Niners if healthy, can be the real deal. Arizona expected to be a garbage boat again.

NFC North is a monster, every single team in the division is a legit contender.

NFC East seems like a bunch of rebuild teams, with maybe Philly offering a promise of good football, but a shadow of past years contention after many roster changes. Of course I expect the Giants to finally turn a corner in J-Dart's 2nd year, but last year was crippled by injuries and this year we already signed like 4 extra dumpster dive WR, because so many of our WR are already hurt before the Pre-Season even begins. NYG are still one of the top 5 most injured teams over the last 20 years.

NFC South looks like the ongoing trash division will remain trash.

Rams are a Stafford injury away from being fucked.

and Stafford has a bad back.

Right? That is why I thought it was so weird that people criticized them for Ty Simpson. Mattford is at the end of his rope. Drafting a 1st Rounder before it is an act of desperation is a best practice, ala Alex Smith and the Mahomey. Simpson is in the background learning until Matford gets hurt, then he rolls on, or they wait until Matford runs out his contract in another year and move on with the 1st Rounder already well seasoned as a back up.

Seems like a great plan.

The Simpson thing was weird because he's just not that good and using a 1st round pick on a guy that won't contribute right away is dumb when you're going all in and rarely have 1st round picks anyway.

The Packers seem to make that strategy work.

I mean, you literally just stated their QB situation being a critical flaw. The Simp was taken as the 2nd QB in the Draft and trying to trade down is a nasty gamble as he was the 2nd rated after The Mendo in a skinny draft pool for the postion. 13th was maybe a bit high, but it just makes sense. A QB should NEVER be drafted to start, so it seems ideal.

Right - going from Stafford to a rookie qb fucks them. Simpson is not good. For reference, remember that Rams sent Goff, two first rounders, and a third to upgrade to Stafford. Simpson wears Goff jammies to bed. He WISHES he was Goff. Even if he accidentally becomes decent like Jordan Love, it's gonna be 2029 when he does.

Basically its just weird that every move they have made is to win now, but then the 1st round pick is used on a project QB instead of a player that can contribute day 1.

I mean it isn't ideal, but do you think Jimmy Garroppolo or Russel Wilson are a better option? Simpson would have been a good pick in the 2nd round. 1st round feels early, but it seems like the best plan using the tools they had to address important depth.

yes? I take Jimmy or Russ 100 times out of 100 over Simpson to win it all next year.

You are making my point for me. If Stafford is out, there are no options at QB that keep the lambs as a serious SB contender for 2026/7 - that includes Simpson

The flip side is that they could have drafted Sadiq/Lemon/Conception who could actually contribute year 1 and I'm glad they didn't.

Brock Purdy was drafted in the 7th round. :laughing Tom Brady was drafted in the 6th. :dunno

With the right team around him, any Pro Level QB can transition into a winner. A QB is not magic, they are not a born savant. They are not a rare genetic gift you see every so oftne in a lifetime. They are just another player, that can be taught to be great with the right Coach on the right surround cast team.

That is why dumpster fire teams that draft Top QB's to start always fail and never turn around. If Purdy or Brady had been drafted to Cleveland or the Raiders or Jets, no one ever even would have known their names. They would have been David Carr'd into irrelevance. Simpson has talent, every knew he was no barnstormer, but pretty good and the #2 guy this year.

If The Rams are for real and he ends up getting a shot, he may grow into it and he may not. Wilson and the Grapper are known to be washed up, their potential has been all used up.
