ADV/DS ride Lake Berryessa/Knoxville OHV/Rayhouse Rd.

The construction was at the very end of the first Knoxville dirt section right as you come up to Knoxville/Berryessa RD. They are building a concrete arch over that dry creek that will be rather like the one down at the camp area if I understood the constructor guys correctly.

Will likely be finished before next ride since they were building forms etc.

Both the gates for 40 and 41 were open Sunday but will likely be closed next ride. No riding around the 41 gate so that pretty much closes that route from the west side.

Was it a standard padlock on the gate? I can get through that pretty fast with my lockpick set.

I've always wondered what that roung building was... Very Cool. I thought it was someone's cabin.

Saw this in the Vacaville Reporter about the Knoxville area. Could be good, could be bad.

Hope this link works.

Hopefully a very good thing. If you're not already familiar with them, BRC does great advocacy work on behalf of OHV users.

Standing in that kiva I couldn't help but think this would be a great overnight spot for riders who want to use the surrounding area to ride in. Such a waste to see that building go unused, especially with so much potential for outdoor activities in the immediate area.

I see a clubhouse...how much do they want for it?

My buddy and I did the knoxville blm part of this route yesterday from south to north. That jeep trail was a blast. We got to the north camp and the exit road was totally blocked with construction. We tried to find another route out, got lost a bit on some gnarly black-diamond type stuff, and just headed back to the devils head entrance. Did we miss a turn somewhere, or is the north access closed for now? Fwiw the blm map is bloody useless.

I rode it last week and it was closed. The BLM guy was there and said it would be done in 2/3 weeks.

Anyone up for this ride on Monday? Or just riding up to and exploring the BLM area? Should be good if rain stops midday Saturday as scheduled, no?

We were up at Knoxville Rec Area today and had a blast. We hit the single tracks but went down to the bridge construction to check it out.

Good news: The bridge is all finished! It is no Ponte Veccio but it is a solid, well engineered bridge. It should last a long time.

Bad news: The road is pretty muddy. I would not attempt it without knobbies until it dries out. If you try with a big bike you have bigger balls than me. The worst part is after the incline north of the arched bridge. I took a mud bath after my front tire wanted to go in a different direction than my back tire.

Yo, I was the idiot out there yesterday on the 990 with the shit eating grin going the other direction. :teeth I did some exploring on the southern section and rode some "puddles" with water washing over the top of my windscreen...dunno how it ends up way the hell up there... Did lots of slipping and sliding around but managed to keep her from taking a nap in the mud. I also tried to ride Reiff road but decided not to tear up their road after the road closure sign... I may or may not have gone past it a bit... Anyway, the clay and mud was so thick out there that my front fender was sticking to the tire and trying to rip itself and my brake lines right off the bike...oh yeah it also locked up the front tire in the mud going down the hill. That was an eye opener; thankfully I wasn't going fast. After a little :eboy and unbolting the fender in the middle of the muddy road I may or may not have been on, I was able to continue on. I think a high mount fender and legit knobbies will be in order for future winter rides. Overall, I couldn't have been happier with the big girls performance out there in some pretty sketchy conditions! Next time I need to get someone else out there with me so we can explore some of the areas that seem way too idiotic to take that bike alone :)

:thumbup The single track trails were not muddy, they were rocky, tight, and overgrown but not muddy. We put the first tracks down on most of the trails we were on. We did pick up plenty of mud on the way out of the park. We were dropping clumps of mud for 30 miles on the ride home.

I just did the high fender mod. It takes patience, a dremel and a drill. I'll help ya through it if you want. I even have the parts list!

Can't wait to get out there to rd40 again

Is anyone planning on going on Sunday? If the weather isn't too bad and I don't have to work Sunday night. I'm going...

The news seems to say we are about to get hit by a massive storm with insane wind and rain and heavy flooding so won't the trails all be mud slicks on Sunday?

Mud slicks. That does sound like fun. Unfortunately, I am most likely not available on Sunday. Have fun and be safe if you guys go out there. Might not be a good day for the big bikes.

Anyone going? If I go, then we can meet up at 121 & 128. If it's not raining, then i'll go.
Around 09:30.
