Get Fit, Stay Fit, Feel Good - 2026

One of the slowest ways to train is to do the same thing over and over again. You may be at the point where you’d benefit from doing something other than 4mi in 20min. You could try 5min warm up, 10min hard, 5min easy, 10min hard, 5min cool down. The 10min hard will probably be faster than your 4mi and should build fitness faster. But overall fatigue could be comparable to the 20min, even though you were on there for 35min.

I gave the alt pedal a go yesterday.
4 min warm up.
3 min sprint... (at 68yo it is not a real sprint - I don't want a heart attack)
2 min chillish
2 min sprint
Repeat.

At 20 minutes I check and had gone 3.75 miles another chill took me to 22 minutes and 4.11 miles.

Then I did my PT stuff and weights. Balance is getting so much better. Stretching is getting better.
The busted leg is getting stronger and I am checking by doing one leg and then the other. Still aways to go, but on leg press they are close. Leg extension not close. Hamstring curls close. Calf raises not close.

The inner and outer thigh machine is diving into my right side bootie. When finished with all the weights I do very pointed PT exercises that also slap the right side bootie. When finished with that I am walking a little funny to my car but it is a good funny as in tired muscles.

It was a solid 90 minutes after the bike ride.

I am considering a trainer being enlisted soon. One dude is a old person and a rehab specialist. I have been watching his gig with other ancients and I like what I see. I think he can help a lot with some stretching stuff and weight advice.

At home it is tear down the scar tissue time. Man it sucks. Mental fortitude is the key there. Relax.. deal.. push... relax... deal... push. After a bit I will Icy Hot the knee, bootie/hip and leg and go for it again. I can see progress, but it is slow and incremental.

Planning on riding on Saturday. Not just a get on and go and come back. More a normal ride thing with stops and such where the physical part of it will be challenge a bit. Be nice to pose at Bux to start the day.
Hoping the bootie spot does not cause pain. If it does then riding a few hundred miles on a rally may have to wait a bit. :angel

Bud, have you tried ankle collars + functional trainer for leg exercises? For balance/ equalization of independent leg, have you tried Single leg Romanian deadlifts? This fixed my out of balance issue due to strength gap between the two legs.

Don't forget that rest is as valuable, if not more valuable than the exercise...

For sure rest is important. I skip a day every week and double that if I feel tired.

On ankle collars nope. Single Leg Roman Deadlifts nope. They sound to hard right off the bat!. :afm199

Googling now.

I actually just started them two weeks ago.
I did not know what they were called. :laughing

Not using weights yet. Rookie.

Today is sort of day off. Still going to the gym to focus on stretching and PT stuff that are not heavy duty make shit sore stuff. Already soaked the very arthritic wrist in CBD pain rub. It gets a good blast doing upper body stuff. So add that to the shoulder and we have another day just dealing with shit. :afm199

@Holeshot which Peptide product do you use?? Assuming you do. I just noticed the protein drink I have been having for dinner the last two weeks includes bovine peptides.. zero clue if good or useless. The search showed several brands which seem legit (although $$$).

I did look at the injection clinic you linked to me. Not a big fan of needles, but if it can help with the shoulder significantly I would consider it.

To clarify, I have not purchased a new bike. I’m Just answering @900ss’ question about what song @Mike95060 sang to get that new bike.

But I do want a new bike because why not. :teeth

I did another local MTB race yesterday. 5th again!

I got an ok start this time, slotting into the top 10. Up the first climb I took it a little easy at 360w for 100seconds, trying to let the first group go but not so far that I couldnt catch back up. I really didnt want to blow up like last week. I clawed a little distance back on the top ridge and caught up on the major descent. Unfortunately, things got worse after that. For the rest of the lap, the 3 riders that were on the back of the group let gaps form. I just didnt have enough left to close those gaps... so the front group got away again.

For lap 2, I worked with one of those riders to set a solid pace. We caught up to 3 more, making a solid group of 5. For lap 3, I let everyone else lead and conserved my energy. Then about halfway up the climb on the final lap, I attacked. 400w for the final 30sec of that climb broke the draft onto the ridge. I kept turning over the legs and built enough of gap to be safe with traffic and obstacles. I finished 5th, 9sec ahead of 6th.

It was cool to have the legs for an attack and actually succeed at it. I also set an all-time 60min power PR at 239w. But I would have much rather stayed with the lead group, drafted way more, and had lower power numbers. The HR numbers are absurd. I haven't seen 190bpm HR in a long time and 187bpm for 2min is nuts.

Here's the data for my suffering. Another 1000Cal burned in 1:04!

Up next is a 100mi gravel ride on Saturday. It's technically an enduro, kinda a race. There are 3 sectors on course that are timed for prizes. Im riding it with my buddy Kevin so it should be a fun day. Hopefully we do it under 7hrs.

BPC-157 and Glutathione. I've done oral BPC, which is more of an internal gut aid than the injectable BPC, and injectable BPC. The injectable @ the site of pain/ damage has worked very well for me. I haven't used it extensively, but as needed for an issue in my elbow/ extensor muscle on my right arm...from damage I did years ago on a ski. It cleared up the condition that was limiting grip strength quickly. I did use TB-500 at the same time for a few weeks which had a noticeable affect on workouts. I hate needles too, however....and I'm unable to inject myself, so I haven't been able to take advantage. The BPC-157 injection cleared up some other issues as well in the shoulder with the plated color bone.

Here’s my suffering for the day. 8hrs on course, 7:35 pedal time, 5000Cal burned. I rode with my buddy Kevin and his coach Brian McCulloch. The course was fun w plenty of interesting dirt. The 100mi course was more adventure than race, and it may have been dangerous to do solo. I def had more than a few oh shit moments, mostly with rocks and slidey gravel on fast descents. It was great to ride with two others all day, esp someone as strong as Brian.

It’s all roads. If I want to add some dirt I would have to drop down to the American River on Ponderosa road. Some day I’ll try that with today’s ride because it would add 1k of climbing.

I have ridden down to the American a number of times but it’s been on shorter 20 mile rides.

Dude, when I grow up I want to be like you…(bowing to @stangmx13)

i’m counting spring property cleanup as my workout these days. last couple of weeks i’ve woke up every morning feeling like i got hit by a train.
Living in the foothills and keeping your property clean is a major workout. Big thumbs up from me.

Hey @littlebeast, what are you doing for Western States? I have a bike race the same day but me my wife and some friends are going to be at the finish line to see the winners. We normally go up to Foresthill but with my race that won’t happen.
