I just placed a deposit on a Chinese Unicorn!

I hit the bike shops yesterday, looking for a value for my Triumph.
Average worth, $1475. '06, English made, first of the 270* cranks, first year for Classic Scrammies,
I can't believe it, Sportster basket case bikes have been selling for $2K, forevers.
My sled will shut down an 883, & it runs excellent.

I did ask about WTF is going with CF Moto, a new guy, didn't know about the last few months.
Still have a grey on the floor.
 
I think that value for your Triumph is a wholesale trade in price. Just checked Cycle Trader and they go around $2500-$4500 early 2000s

I know most of the "buy it in another state and put 7500 miles on it" comments were sort of joking ... but ... the deal is miles at time of purchase needs to be over 7,500. So if you buy a new one from a dealer in say VA, that paperwork will probably state it has 3 miles or something on it, so if you roll into CA with 7501 and paperwork saying 3 miles at time of purchase, no bueno!

Now if you title it and get a plate is another state ... put 7501 miles on it ... then you want to transfer it from your name/title in other state to CA, hummmm ... guess that could work.

Also I wonder if the bikes for sale in other states have the EPA sticker on them saying they meet Federal and CA emission standards? Or is the plan for the CA model to be a one-off (emissions wise)?

David, CA doesn't regulate what takes place out of the state. The law simply states "7,500 miles or more is a used vehicle". Period. So long as the vehicle hasn't been documented w/in CA (roads) with less than 7,500 miles, the registrant applicant is ok.
 
I once bought an out of state bike that only had 6800 miles. I learned that if you open up a speedo with a mechanical odometer, it wont roll backwards... but it will roll forward no problem. Suddenly it had 7800 miles. :laughing

I guess it depends on some specific details while at the DMV.

One example ... a friend bought a 49 state bike used in Nevada with ~6,500 miles on it ... got it from a dealership in NV ... they gave him a 30 day tag to ride it back ... friend put a bit over 1000 miles on it ... went to CA DMV, with the bike, with odo showing like 7700 miles or so ... he gave the DMV bill of sale paperwork that showed the price he paid at the dealership ... and that had the 6,500 miles on it ... DMV said nope, can not be registered, and they did something in the system to flag it so he could not go to a different DMV to register it.

I guess in his case he could have not shown the bill of sale. But DMV asked for it (to determine taxes), he had it and gave it to them.
 
DMV's wrong in that case, or your friend may have indicated that the bike had set wheels down in CA before the 7,500 mile threshold was crossed. I'm guessing the 2nd one based on "30 day tag to ride it back".

Not to be a downer, and take this with a grain of salt...but sales guy at East Bay Motorsports said they weren't expecting their Ibex shipment until November. He could well be talking out of his 4th point of contact. Or not. Who knows?
