Musk has been saying this for a long time.


The US :flag needs aobut 20-30% more grid capacity for all cars today to switch to EV.
That is actually not a bid deal.

Over the decads the US grid has grown capacity and rates much higher than would be needed for EV adoption. EV adoption is just not that fast. People don't replace cars and they should not replace cars like they do phones or gadgets. There is a good Energineering Explained Youtube on that.

Less gasoline and diesel use will save some grid energy becuse of the electricity that is used to refine the oil. Oil and gasoline pipelines are big energy sucks.

Water: At times in California 20% of the grid energy used is moving water around the state. Think about that when you water your thisty lawn. I can go on and on about water in Califonia.

The trend with AC use and energy used in McMansions is what worries me. Some folks never leave the house- energy hogs. "78 deg F is too hot"- Cream puffs. I have not been using the AC. My townhome is insulated enough to stay coolish.
 
Did you know that the Canucks in parts of Ontario call electricity "Hydro" ?

Hooking up at a campsite with the RV this summer, we had " water and hydro" hookups. Eh?

just realized, that I've also heard people refer to the power+plant directly, if, in their reagion they know exactly what it is: "the thermal plant" ; "the hydro-electric plant"

OK but how much of it is used to grow almonds and alfalfa in a desert and then sell them to the rest of the country/world?
 
SoCal is the water equivalent of a stray cat that you wish you never fed.

Yep, that my rant. California exports energy and power to the rest of the world in the form of expoted fruits, nut, ect. The meat insustry is more water intensive than almonds.

Califonia Aggriculture uses 80% of the water, all that power and Agg is ~2% of the California GDP.
 
Don't forget all that water in wine and craft brew we export.

Lagunitas does have a Chicago brewery as well but few others do.

There is a local starup that is trying to make a device that basically makes any drink - beer, wine - on the spot - just add water and the magic chemistry cartridge already inspalled in the machine.

So the drink is made on demand and shipping of heavy bottles and liquid is not needed.

I wanted to buy one of the Coca Cola “Freestyle” machines. Worry about wife approval later. But nope. They only lease them to restaurants.

I don’t know about beer and wine. But those Freestyle machines don’t operate like old soda fountains do with the giant cans of syrup feeding in. It’s all powder packets/cartridges that get loaded in the machine not much different than ink cartridges on a printer. Just need a water line and a CO2 feed, but other than that it’s self contained.

Damn I still want one.

What I am talking about is more like 3D printing for drinks - not from concentrate.

Cool concept, but I did not persue the job.

Are they powder? I know the cartridges are smaller, but I figured they just reduced the water and concentrated the syrup more.

Funny story about that....

Years ago I'm watching a guy change the syrup box in a coffee machine at a Burger King... it's only about a pint in size. So I ask him how many they go through per day...

He says they last about a week!?!:wow:wow

I looked into it more. So you’re right, the Freestyle machines use cartridges (with RFIDs on them) but they are filled with super concentrated syrup. But they really do load in like ink cartridges for a printer.
 
I laughed when you said you wanted to buy one. I love those machines too...tried the same thing through our Golf Club. Was too pricey at the time AND they won't service them outside the service location (GC).
 
That graphic seems to have a flaw. The bottom distribution shows Tesla at about 60% of top sellers in the US but the middle caption says Tesla was 40% of all EV's in the US. There's something missing. Top vs. all, I guess...?
