What is the best sandwich?

We ate sliced dill pickles and mayo on Wonder bread. When Mom
was at the bar all night we’d make grilled peanut butter sandwiches for dinner.
my grandmother used to make me grilled peanut butter sandwiches. with a glass of chocolate milk to dip them in. super yum!

my current fav is open face egg salad and bacon (slices of bacon on toasted sourdough, with egg salad on top). open face because if you put it between two slices of bread, it squishes out all over the place. my dude makes the. best. egg salad. EVER! no clue what his secret is (one thing i do know for sure is dukes mayo) - but OMG, so awesome! he makes killer chicken salad too, but i usually just eat that out of a bowl (no sandwich).

I think we had potted salmon and / or shrimp on a rare occasion as well. A sugar buttie was another staple, as well as a sauce {ketchup) buttie. RAF life, FTW! Hey, we survived.

Po' Boy in New Orleans, hot and crispy or the muffuletta. . . that thing is a gut bomb.

But a food truck in L.A. sold me a damn pastrami taco with sauce once, and I still think about that. Hot pastrami, with sauce, on a crunchy taco shell that was worth the wait in line for.

Would wait in a long line for another pastrami taco.

Remember these in the 80's
Solves the squishing out problem.

Sauerkraut? Typically comes with, I'm in the "not for me" crowd.

Not exactly a sando but well worth noting, best food in the Bay Area is at a gasstation! -
Nice!

There’s a really funky little Valero in Oakland on Broadway, right across from
Kaiser, and they had the best tacos! They have Krispy Krunchy chicken now, too. Not sure how they do it. The space they work out of is about 1/2 the size of my bathroom?

Oh this reminded me, my dad used to make us toasted peanut butter and honey sandwiches. He'd just toast them lightly in the toaster oven, it was delicious.

There are many good ones.

For me the bread is the most important ingredient.

Oh boy on bread....
No kidding.

We make all our bread at home.

Sourdough, slicing bread, French bread, potato bread, herb bread etc.

Wife has been feeding her sourdough starter for decades though i don't use it when I bake bread.

I'm a lazy bread maker and always use a bread machine to do the kneading for me before taking it out and letting it rise and then forming and letting it rise again before baking.

If anyone has an old never used bread machine in the pantry use it that way; usually called the dough setting.

Easy peasy.

Not a sandwich per se but Bagels, cream cheese, capers, red onions then Lox in that order.

Do it every Christmas morning but sometimes I smoke some Trout instead of Lox.

Brother in law makes the bagels.

I had a really really good chili cheese dog yesterday. Maybe the best I've ever had. I can't remember the name of the place. It was a recommendation by a stranger in the hotel I was staying at. He just gave me the walking directions.

Hot dogs fit the definition of sandwich so... :teeth

Genova bakery in Stockton, everything is good.
For those who want the BEST bread Genova is the place to go. All bread made in house the morning you order your sandwich.
