ADV/DS ride Lake Berryessa/Knoxville OHV/Rayhouse Rd.

We didn't even start down Reiff until after 7:30 at night and pulled into Winters right at mid-night. This was after several close calls with the local wildlife to include a deer and grey fox running out in front of us and a jack rabbit with the nerve to go right in between us. Thought I was hitting him for sure! Then there was the skunk walking down the side of the road that Drew almost crashed Into and I almost fell off my bike laughing at his "reaction" trying to avoid it...something like brake, clutch, gas swerve but really uncoordinated...lol

If that sounds fun I'll let you know the next time we do a spur of the moment afternoon/night run up there.

Yep...
I've been down both ways at the "T" on Reiff road, they both go about 7 miles each, the split to the south just dead ends at a hiking trail and the north goes to a campground. Both were fun but you do need to pay attention to your gas...

Dead ends into a hiking trail that goes where? Is the hiking trail rideable? The road at the "T" was fun on street tires but it would be nice to find something a little more challenging and slap on the knobbies. Remember the trail with the old honda we rode in Knoxville? If we can do that, anything is possible...lol It would be cool to be able to link that trail at the "T" up with either hwy 16 or K-B road!

I also want to go explore Lookout Rd and Country Road 78 A over on the east side of Berryessa sometime. Have you been on those roads?

Some more pics:

This Sunday is the 2nd Sunday. Anyone thinking of doing this ride?
:ride

No can do. Watching the flop-ball World Cup final with the wifey tomorrow. You kids have fun!

I'm gonna have to miss this one too. Only get to watch Germany spank Argentina at most, every four years.

It's suppose to be hot tomorrow. My plan is to get out of the Starbuck's / Chevron meetup location around 8:30am. That's earlier than normal. Then take a SHORT break at the Bridge at Lake Berryessa. Then one more at the entrance to Knoxville OHV. Doing Reiff Rd will depend on how hot it is and the time of day.

Oh, and I'm.....:afm199 and not too fast. :laughing

Any takers?
:ride

I just got some tix for the wsbk tomorrow so I'm out, but I really want to do this ride one of these months

Might be up for it: Just replaced the steering head bearings, new front tube and a new K60 rear. Gotta bang on it a little and make some adjustments.

MX race at Riverfront in Marysville tomorrow. You guys have fun! If anyone ever wants to do this ride after work during the week sometime and isn't worried about riding back in the dark let me know.

Any info threads/urls etc: re lost coast route; Usal Rd to Shelter Cove Mattole rode to Ferndale; Dirt, Fire roads, jeep trails, mule tracks paved etc

I'm happy to report that I carried on the tradition of the 2nd Sunday DS ride. Nobody else showed by 8:30am so off I went. I stopped at Turtle Rock when I saw a friend standing by his BMW R1200GS. We hooked up and rode to Reiff Rd where he kept going on a loop to Lower Lake and then down Hwy16 to wait for me to come out at the Cache Creek Campgrounds by the Zero Ton bridge.

It's been a while since I ridden Reiff / Rayhouse Road. I was surprised at how much it's degraded. Water erosion and lack of maintenance have really taken it's toll. There are many spots where the water has eroded the hillside right up to and into the road. I fear that this road won't be passable for too much longer. Too bad.

Oh, and it did get hot! But. leaving early and not riding through Knoxville OHV got me to lunch at Capay's Road Trip bar/restaurant/store before noon and home by 2:30.

Next time.......:ride

Good to hear, we were at WSBK in Monterey this weekend. Will see you all next time.

Hey Aaron what year is your 690 and how do you like it? I am thinking about selling my 500 exc and getting something a little bigger for some over night trips.

Mine is a 2010 and I love it. LOVE IT! It really is a great bike for my kind of adventure touring. The thing will go anywhere with ease, and is comfortable on the slab, too. Really a neat bike.

and you can mount passenger pegs also right? That's the only reason I would even think about getting rid of the 500...it's an amazing bike that can handle harder terrain than I am capable of riding but I would like something I could take a passenger on.

Yeah, it comes stock with them, I think. I just don't have them on mine. You wouldn't want to take a heavy passenger, though. Remember that the fuel tank is the subframe.
