Get Fit, Stay Fit, Feel Good - 2026

I had my shortest ever gym workout today

Warm up
3x4 single leg press
2x10 single leg dead lift
3x8 military press
3x8 bent over row
3x8 tri extensions
7 way hips
Cooldown

Took only 45min.

The focus was single leg press… and I PR’d it today. I started at +10lbs, which was too easy. Then I did +25, +50, and +75 for the final set. 🥳. Next week I’ll start at +75. I have 4-5 more of these workouts over the next few weeks. Maybe I can make it to +100 or 125.

<SNIP>

Riding the bike I am working my way to 4 miles in 20 minutes. Doing it 5 or 6 times a week. I start each work out with the bike.

Took 21 minutes today. (counting backwards from 60).

You can’t see that the level is 10.
Quick warm up at level 7~8~9 and hit 10 at 2.5 minutes.
I had a killer ride and workout on Sunday knocking about 25 seconds off my time by doing level 11 for about 1/2 of the 20 minute + session.

Today I rocked the 4 mile mark in 19;51 so the goal was achieved. Came a bit faster than I thought, but I felt good and said why not give it a go. Adjusted to quick warm up at 9 and hit 10 at 2 minutes. That had me at 1.99 miles at 10 minutes so I knew it would be close.

Breathing still under control and I could tell my pulse was a bit higher but certainly not where I needed to breath in and out via my mouth. Followed up with a good PT session and weights. The one leg balance is getting better to. I did not mention that I went to the Physical Therapist this AM and she noted progress in every aspect of range of motion, strength and in particular balance. Got some new things to work on and got in some good work.

So the gym was essentially my second work out. Nothing like a double day to make you feel good.

I have a relatively flat 34 mile ride(1100 ft of vert) with friends planned this weekend. I figure we will stop to regroup and also for drinks. I’m really looking forward to it.

off to the gym.
Tumeric is good for recovery and no I don't snort it!

Holy crap, turmeric is a rabbit hole. This paper is HUGE

Tl;dr - turmeric is anti inflammatory, antimicrobial, and an antioxidant. But the active ingredient is very not bioavailable. So you gotta eat a lot and with the right things to get an effect for more than 2hrs. Black pepper helps a lot apparently.

helps me a great deal actually. Need to read up on possible negatory effects!

Spin bike has been like kryptonite lately so thinking of getting an elliptical. It was the only cardio machine in the gym I could tolerate for 40 minutes. Not sure of the do’s and don’t of what to buy and avoid for a home machine though.

wait, so we all have parasites in our gut? Can Turmeric also help with that issue?

Too much antimicrobial anything is very bad for your gut, just like taking antibiotics. You need those microbes for digestion, hormone regulation, to not get sick, and prob countless other reasons.

We are up to 2% not human. Bacteria cell count in and on our bodies is comparable to our human cell count. But they are light so it’s only ~2% by mass.

I'd suggest used (rebuilt) commercial level unit, if you have to get an elliptical. How much room do you have and what's the budget? IMO, as we get older, resistance (weight) training is the greatest bang for the buck/ time. Bone density issues and all, It's believed to be superior to cardio only workouts. TBH, bands and Kettlebells can get you pretty darn far along. Add a functional trainer and adjustable bench and you've got a really good setup to with with. IMO and IME. You'll see noticeable changes within a few months if you're not doing something similar, currently.

One of the best, if not a bit pricey used FT's is the Freemotion G624. You can find these used for about $2,500 and they're simply fantastic. When you're done with it, you'll be able to sell it for what you paid for it....same goes for any used life fitness benches. The commercial stuff is a larger investment, but also with a high retained value later, so long as it's a known, quality brand (there's only a few of these). Residential level stuff has very low, if any retained value. If you just want a simple set of crossovers that are older, but work well, I have a sit I'll give you.

I do have some basic weight gear that gets used intermittently.

Don't have room for commercial size gear so compactness is on the list of requirements.
Browsed craigslist and saw what might be used bargains but don't want to take a chance on someone's junk and don't want to disassemble and reassemble so would rather buy new.
Saw the below at a local dealer and felt smooth and sturdy so will likely be pulling the trigger on it.

That's a slick, efficient setup you've got upstairs. My bad...you've got what ya need for the most part.

Last week sucked balls. Had to go to CT for work and only flight in I could get was through La Guardia. Imagine my surprise when I get to the airport at ass crack o'clock and my second leg is canceled due to airplane versus firetruck incident. Reschedule for the next day go back home get 2 hours sleep in then do some work. decide to go to the gym and hit the weights. Did bench and some other chest work and after that was like so exhausted I just went home. Crashed out and got up early again on Tuesday and hit the airport. Got to houston and delayed to La Guardia for 6 hours so finally get into NY at 7pm. Saw the wreckage on the tarmac on the way to baggage claim and it was not pretty. Got to office location at 9pm get hotel key and go to room only to find that someone is already in it. Thank god the person wasn't in it but saw all their stuff scattered around. got new room downstairs and this time no one was in it. did 2 days of meetings went back to NY to sleep in prep for Friday flight. Ate some food slept woke up extra early Friday and turned the car in and went to airport. It was a frigging disaster. After 2+ hours in line I had to go back to the gate agent twice to redo my boarding pass some stupid shit about my first and middle name on boarding pass. barely make my plane we take off and then all of a sudden it felt like an alien baby was going to pop out of my abdomen. worst 3.5 hour flight ever swore I was going to puke right before touchdown it was so bad but managed to keep my dignity intact. landed in houston and as we descended for some reason my abdomen got better. flew home from houston fine and then came home. Told my boss never going to CT again if he wants to meet we can go to our new office in Denver. F the NE. Long story took gym clothes but didn't get a chance to use them in hotel and can't wait until Monday to hit reset and start over.
