transporting a handgun

:facepalm didn't think of that...lol. In this state, who knows it's entirely possible, at least if I try to fly out of SFO or something. As it is I can't stand how even in full uniform, ON MY WAY BACK TO IRAQ, I got pulled aside for a "randomly selected search" of my bag...guess all my laptop cables looked suspicious. I looked right at the TSA guy and was like "seriously dude? US Army? On YOUR side?" (though I guess now after that whole Major Hassan attack that doesn't mean nearly the same thing it used to :( )

If it's a concealable firearm (handgun), it needs to be in a locked container if it's within the passenger compartment of a vehicle. Your hatchback, if accessable without exiting the vehicle, is a passenger compartment.

A long-gun does not need to be in a locked container when inside the passenger compartment.

In neither case shall the firearm be loaded or ammo be touching it in anyway, shape, or form.
This says otherwise.

Anybody signing up to get the Oregon sheriff to issue ccw's in Cali?

I'm sure you already know this but just for others reading, so they don't get confused, this Oregon sheriff will be issuing Oregon CCW's...which are no good here in California.

This doesn't answer the original posters question, but adds to the follow up comments...You can get a California concealed carry permit from the counties outside of the Bay Area much easier, but you will need a local address, and to jump thru the application process hoops....but they will issue if you pass.

You have no chance of a permit in the bay area....unless you're filthy rich and connected, a gov't worker or a politician. Kind of sounds like a corrupt, socialist 3rd world country, doesn't it?

Ahhh, Nevada, where you can drive with a loaded Glock on your dash.

I didn't read the whole opinion, but I think that's a pretty stupid ruling on 11370.1 H&S. For their interpretation, any firearm that can't be immediately fired is "unloaded." A pistol with a magazine in the well without a round chambered would meet this definition.

I went to jail like that. Trust me, a mag with rounds in it must be OUT of the handgun. Regardless of one in the chamber.

;)

Uh, does that explain your absence? :laughing
I'd consider that an educated opinion.

:party
Yes, it's an opinion from experience. Not just the handcuffs and bars, but also with the lawyer afterward. Big bills.

Hope you're doing well, Alusious.. It's nice to be back.

I'll be applying for a CCW anyway...though I highly doubt I'll get it in this area :(

If you apply and get denied, it puts a black mark on you. When law changes in Kalifornia and you re-apply, you have denial on your record. You will not get CCW. So, unless you are 120% sure you can get it, do not apply until Kali becomes shall issue.

I agree with this. You won't get your CCW. It's a waste of time, and like stated above - does not help you in the future.

I doubt that it truly "prevents" you from getting one in the future, but I know for a fact it does not help at all.

However, if you don't want to wait for Kali to become a real state, you can always move to a "red county" like mine. Our Sheriff hands them out like cupcakes around here. We have ZERO crime. We got guns in these hills and the flatlanders know this.

:( that's kinda retarded...especially considering they probably don't list a reason you were denied, like "this one was denied for being a convicted felon, and this guy was denied cause i was in a bad mood that day and we had different laws back then".

On another note, might be a stupid question but I'm not sure on the specifics and one of my friends who just went through the police academy wasn't sure either...

If someone moves INTO California from another state...and has CA LEGAL weapons but they were purchased and registered in that previous state...1, do they have to re-register them in CA, 2, what's the process/fees if they do? Not sure if one would only have to register firearms purchased here, or all firearms owned.

I always transport my pistols in my range bag, each one individually cable locked through the breach and magazine well. I keep the ammo in a seperate container. I guess that makes me a criminal by the letter of the law. The funny thing is: legally I could have them in a biometric quick access mini safe that takes 1 second to open, with loaded magazines in the same safe on the passenger seat and be perfectly legal. The assholes who come up with this shit really don't think these things through.

My big question is this: On the CCW app, it says they must give you an answer within a certain amount of time. What if they took 8 years to say no? What if all the records they have indicate that very fact?

What's the consequence for them not responding in the time they are supposed to?

Law said that handgun must be unloaded in the locked container. If your car has a trunk that's it. Putting cable lock on the gun is a waste of your time. If your car does not have a trunk and your guns in the unlocked range bag, that makes you a felon regardless of cable lock on your gun. Get a range bag that have zippers that can be locked with small padlocks.

I have a 4 door truck, with no trunk. I can put a padlock on my range bag and may do so in the future just to be "legal."

I was just pointing out the stupidity of "locked container" vs. the more secure and slower to deploy disabling devices like cable locks.

With a micro gun vault I can pretty much be CCW in my truck legally as it would take .5 seconds to open the safe and pop in the loaded magazine accompanying the pistol. (Legal)

With a cable lock I would need to pull over, stop, remove my keys from the ignition, unlock the cable lock, then insert the magazine, then be ready to fire. (Illegal)

It makes no sense from a safety perspective.
