transporting a handgun

just don't tell them its in there... :laughing

cop: Do you mind if I search your vehicle?
you: yes I do mind.
cop: Do you have any weapons in the vehicle?
you: I will use my right to remain silent.

excellent way to not raise any suspicions and cause an officer to begin working toward the warrantless search exceptions...

good point!

"wait a minute ocifer while I put some Vaseline on my ass so you can proper fuck me!"

If he has a PC he doesn't need my permision. Otherwice, "I do not have anything illegal on me or in my vehicle. Am I free to go?"

You mean to say that denying a "simple" police request which I have as a right. Arouses suspicion...

Take that to court and see who needs the "Vaseline."

If history and current events have shown anything, people with power have a hard time not abusing it especially on those that are ignorant of where the legal limits are.

You sound like a LEO, care to tell me when you last received a moving violation while breaking all sorts of traffic laws yourself? My suspicions are getting aroused... Seems like an abuse of status...

all that I am saying personally is choosing to remain silent when asked if there are weapons in the vehicle is going to raise an eyebrow...

as for your 2nd paragraph, do you really want to know the answer?

Don't know if you're CHP or not, but when they pass out their little 5099 license plate holders to their friends and family. It ain't for looks.

Being in a car of a friend who happened to be a CHP officer's younger brother that NEVER got a speeding ticket because of that damned plate cover

I'd say giving out 5-10 over the limit to non-members must be one funny inside joke.

Why not just lock up your guns during transport instead of playing your jedi mind games?

Absolutely...when you live in a state that has absurd (criminal) infringements on your 2nd Amendment rights, you have to play by their rules.

Gotta love Nevada, where you're supposed to keep your loaded gun in plain view....driving with a loaded Glock on the dashboard, without getting a second look from the NHP or local cops. Californians can't even process this idea.

is explicitly excluded as an acceptable place

Bear in mind I am not challenging you on this, but I'm very curious to see the "express explicitly" mentioned anywhere in the law. Do you have a section or code to copy and paste, perhaps?

I would think a LOCKING glovebox, as most of them are nowadays, would qualify as legit form of transport.

My most recent trip to Vegas had us driving the highway with my loaded .45 in the glovebox. I think you may be wrong about "plain view" for most of Nevada, Clark county excepted.

I just spoke to a sheriffs officer about this. It appears this may fall under discretion, as he said that personally if he pulled me over and I have an unloaded handgun in my locked glovebox, he would not push the issue or cite/arrest me.

However, not all cops are the same. A lot of times, interpretation goes all the way to the courtroom. So, to play it safe, I agree - NO glovebox. However, my phone call just now proves that this is not 100% absolute. ;)

that goes for the majority of crimes... we let people off for things all the time for a variety of reasons...

but for the purposes of protecting *yourself* you should run under the assumption that it's 100% absolute... as you cannot guarantee the discretion of the officer

Totally agree. Always better safe than sorry.

Clark Co is the exception. They key is 'plain view', not concealed. Concealed gets you in trouble if you don't have a CCW permit. Nevada is a "shall issue" state.
